Autobiography no. 14

The first woman I ever loved gave me
Bukowski, Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell,
and a hollow ball of cells that died in a doctor’s office
somewhere, unmourned.

Though it has been many years I see her
each time a pretty girl with curly hair walks by.
I do not know where she is now
but I hope she never has to see me.
